/ Our story

Every great venture starts with a simple idea.

For the University of Kentucky Entrepreneurship Club, that idea was a place where students could explore entrepreneurship together — regardless of major, background, or experience. Here's how it grew.

Mission

"Turning ideas into businesses."

Who we are today

A home for Wildcat builders.

The Entrepreneurship Club is UK's home for students who want to build — regardless of major, background, or experience. Engineers, designers, business students, pre-meds, athletes, artists — anyone with the courage to turn an idea into something real.

Our mission

Help students become builders.

Whether that means launching a startup, joining an early-stage company, leading innovation inside an established business, or simply developing the confidence to solve meaningful problems — eClub exists to provide the experiences, mentorship, and community that make those goals possible.

How we run

Bi-weekly, builder-first meetings.

We meet every other Wednesday at 6:30 PM during the fall and spring semesters. Sessions rotate between founder talks, hands-on build weeks (Lemonade Stand Week, Dorm Business Week), pitch competitions, VC and operator panels, and social nights with other Kentucky entrepreneurship orgs.

Where we're going

And we can't wait to see what you'll build.

The goal is simple: make UK the obvious place in the Southeast to start a company as a student. More competitions, more capital in the hands of student founders, deeper ties with Awesome Inc, VACE, and the broader Bluegrass startup ecosystem, and an alumni network of founders who come back and invest in the next class.

/ Timeline

From 2021 to today.

The beginning

A simple idea

Every great venture starts with a simple idea. For the University of Kentucky Entrepreneurship Club, that idea was creating a place where students could explore entrepreneurship together — regardless of major, background, or experience. What began as monthly meetings, speakers, workshops, and networking became a community where ideas could be shared, challenged, and transformed into real businesses.

Early years

Introducing students to entrepreneurship

eClub focused on introducing students to the world of founders and operators. Members learned from entrepreneurs, connected with professionals across Kentucky's business community, and participated in programs like the annual Pitch Competition — presenting concepts, getting feedback, and taking their first steps into entrepreneurship. As interest in innovation grew across campus, so did the club's ambitions.

2024

The first Startup Pitch Competition

A new chapter began as eClub expanded its programming with larger, hands-on experiences. On November 14, 2024, the club hosted its first documented Startup Pitch Competition — student founders presented ventures to experienced entrepreneurs, competed for cash prizes, and received real feedback from judges. It established a new tradition and made the growing entrepreneurial talent at UK visible.

2025

A year of expansion

Members explored what it truly takes to build a company through events like the Scaling a Startup Workshop, where founders shared lessons on leadership, growth, hiring, and fundraising. The club also introduced Idea Feedback Night — a welcoming space to test early-stage concepts, refine thinking, and build confidence before taking bigger steps.

2025

Plugging into Kentucky's startup ecosystem

eClub strengthened its ties to Kentucky's startup community through partnerships with the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship (VACE) and Awesome Inc. Members participated in Techstars Startup Weekend, 5 Across, and more — meeting entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators from across the Commonwealth. That fall, the Second Annual Startup Pitch Competition expanded both participation and prize funding.

2026

A hub for entrepreneurship at UK

By 2026, eClub had evolved into more than a student organization — it had become a hub for entrepreneurship at the University of Kentucky. The club introduced the Elevator Pitch Competition, sharpening one of the most valuable entrepreneurial skills: communicating ideas clearly and confidently.

2026–27

Our story is still being written

Every semester brings new founders, new ideas, new partnerships, and new opportunities. Every competition inspires another entrepreneur to take the stage for the first time. Every conversation has the potential to become a co-founder relationship, a business, or a lifelong career. The next chapter won't be written by a single person — it'll be written by every student who walks through our doors with the courage to ask, 'What if?'
